5 reviews of Black River State Forest "Black River State Forest includes three campgrounds: East Fork, Pigeon Creek, Castle Mound. We stayed at Pigeon Creek during Labor Day weekend, this is a review of that experience. We've also had friends stay at East Fork and they had nice recommendations of that campground as well.

Castle Mound State Natural Area in the Black River State Forest has great variety of good bullet hard sandstone boulders. People have been bouldering and climbing here for a long time. In the late 80's and early 90's Dave Groth and company developed many of the now classic problems. Best time to climb is in spring or fall, but all year can be good.
